Poetry Decathlon

Post by Tom » Sun Jul 28, 2019 10:31 pm

.

 Poetry Decathlon

Write ten poems -- one each of the following listed poems completes the decathlon.

If at the close of the Fest you have posted poems from five of the categories, then you have completed the pentathlon.  If you have posted seven, then you have completed  the heptathlon.

The poems you post need to be new poems, written for this contest.

There is no requirement that you post them in the order listed below.  You may post in any order.

When you post a poem to this thread, please identify what form it is.  Keep a list of your poems to date.  If there are numerous participants, this thread could get long, and if each participant updates their own list in progress, then it should make it an engaging thread.

Best of luck to you all.  Remember, if this was easy, everyone would do it.  Even prosers.  Ooops, sorry prose writers.  :)

Before the close of the Festival on August 10, 2019, write and post one of each of the following:

   1. Haiku / senryu / Kerouac haiku
   2. Limerick
   3. Cinquain - any recognized form of cinquain
   4. Etheree / reverse etheree / double etheree / double reverse etheree [triples and quads count too]
   5. Acrostic poem or square poem
   6. Triolet or septolet
   7. Sonnet or Sestina
   8. Blank Verse minimum two stanzas
   9. Free verse - free form
   10. Wild Card / Cook’s Choice - author’s selection of any form, no form, etc – just a poem.

Haiku -

Pure is but empty.
Gills drink meaningless waters
drained dead of essence.

Even a slight breeze
can make an old cottonwood
flutter and glitter.

Keeping in mind, ten poems are required - no one said they had to be good.  :) I'd rather mine were more fleshed out here but I'm busting a rush to pack for vacation.  Time is not on my side. Thus my ability to play with words is restricted so those words are not as descriptive as I'd like. Also, the pondering I like to do while attempting to write poetry is not a luxury I have at the moment. Excuses, excuses. Seriously though, these leave a lot to be desired even for me.

This is not an apology.
:D  Thes are excuses. There is a difference:roll:  Next year, look out.  Muahahahaha!

~Deb

#1 Haiku

Hot Mama

Bandana on brow
sweat still rolls into my eyes
resemble raccoon

# 2 Limerick

No-Fuss Guss

The old motorcyclist named, Gus
'round the campfire ate dinner with us.
Regaled a true story
'bout his lover, Lori
and how she'd rather screw on a bus.

# 3 Cinquain

              Quill
Feather
Light, fluffy

Drifting, floating, insulating

Stuff pillows, coats, comforters

downy

Limerick

There once was a fat rugby poet.
On the pitch his waist sure did show it.
A try may just come
from out of that scrum
with an ode to just what's below it.

Cinquain

My Wife

killer
of invading
beetles in her gardens
the lady finger-snaps them dead
and smiles

As an old oak, I still welcome her breeze.
