Songs - the other poetry
Children Of The Universe
We don't know from where they came
We can't even pronounce their names
They don't even look the same
They're coming for me and you
It's always the same refrain
It's happening all over again
We need someone else to blame
Asian, Arab, African and Jew
We're concerned about our town
Our way of life, our sacred ground
We don't want them around
Yellow, Black and shades of Brown
They can't hide, they will be found
They can never escape the hound
We wave the flag, and gather round
And hand the crown to a hateful clown
Many folk voted to fan the flame
Thought they'd finally come in out of the rain
While the new old boys firm up their reign
Angling only for personal gain
More changes, but it stays the same
When we resist it's always in vain
Can't we see they're playing a game
Pointing fingers, laying the blame
Can't we see that we're all the same
We're all Children of the Universe
We're all stardust from an angel's purse
We all love our kids, last to the first
Stay as a family, not be dispersed
We're all Children of the Universe
Freedom and Justice our insatiable thirst
Can't get nowhere stuck in reverse
Need to remove this hateful curse
We're all Children of the Universe
No one's better and no one's worse
Love each other as written in Verse
We're all Children of the Universe

Re: Songs - the other poetry
Thanks for posting this, Aimè --great sound. I really like the lyrics. I wish I had some musical talent, but my talent with music lies in the appreciation area.

Tracy - I wish I had some poetic talent, so I could write more symbolically... but music drives my pen, as does story telling/narratives. We all have our gifts, I guess....... so I just play and sing !!!!
Thanks for your support.

Thanks for the support. So here's another, written about an irreparably damaged young boy.........

Mr. Butterfly – A Lullaby For Myles
1a)Oh Mr Butterfly
Sing me a lullaby
Teach me how to fly
Please Mr Butterfly
Then I'll no longer cry
1b)Lovely Mr Butterfly
Flitting there and here
Float softly like a sigh
Such ease without a care
2) Sing me a lullaby
So overdue for rest
Dream drift in the sky
Safe against your breast
1a)Oh Mr Butterfly
Sing me a lullaby
Take away my fears
Please Mr Butterfly
Wipe away my tears
1b)Teach me how to fly
Help me start to heal
Can't be too late to try
To end the long ordeal
3) Abandoned, high and dry
Afraid and alone
Please Mr Butterfly
I hurt to the bone
1a)Oh Mr Butterfly
Sing me a lullaby
Teach me how to fly
Please Mr Butterfly
Then I'll no longer cry
1b)Teach me how to fly
Help me start to heal
Can't be too late to try
To end the long ordeal
2) And then I'll no longer cry
I'll leave the bonds behind
Set free to soar and fly
My true self I will find
1a)Oh Mr Butterfly
Sing me a lullaby
Take away my fears
Please Mr Butterfly
Wipe away my tears

"Teach me how to fly" is the line that that haunts. And the music lingers long after the song ends. Lecram06

Re: Songs - the other poetry
Colm - Glad you refrained for the moment from nailing down the lid to your box and enjoyed some music. And your hate strikes me sooooo hard
I listened to the link to uDEUS - and I've looked them up a bit - they are great, and superb writing. I can see why you like them.
Be well

Re: Songs - the other poetry
Well, isn't this fun. I listened to Children of the Universe on Friday and have been thinking about the part protest songs have played at intense moments in our history. Your style and voice brings to mind the likes of Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger. They made a difference. Its harder now, I think, to make a voice heard but by gosh---keep at it.
Beyond that it is so much fun to hear from our TTB members. This is the first time I've been able to assess someone's vibrato however . Nice one at that and the phrases you almost speak tipped me off to how you might sound reciting a poem---I'll continue to look forward to that. Thank you for posting.
