Defenestration

All of a sudden
wingless
he plummets like shattered glass:
his face skywards
catches sight of her
Mona Lisa smile
within the window frame.

So little time to wonder
how it got there and why.

Triolet 223

Between Cohen and Lorca,
There's a place at the table
For love songs and sorrows.
Between Cohen and Lorca
Dance a cage of free sparrows,
Write the lines of a fable.
Between Cohen and Lorca,
There's a place at the table.

What Do Crows Eat?

Crows are not black:
truth is iridescent, midnight rainbows
that flash in sunlight.
Such is the difference between first vision
and learning how to see.

If only we could see all the light in the dark. Ah. Marcel. I like short poems that thunder.

30 ways to die.
#23

Not in my sleep please,
it's the biggest trip
I'll ever take,
I want to make sure
my bags are packed.

So many things to do, like
disconnect the plugs
set the alarm
redirect the post.

I plan to go gentle
into that good night.
No rage induced sweat,
my body will travel fresh
in newly laundered clothes.

Completely aware,
I'll look up at the monitor
and confirm my destination
one last time...

well, that's the plan.

Your first stanza shouts Readiness. My plan, in my younger years, was to walk out into the wilderness. Now at 80, I have second and third thoughts. Yet still appealing to my adolescent hero. Marcel

NAPO 17  - 2019

50 Years and Counting

Over fifty years ago we said goodbye.
In your street clothes instead of your apron,
stood by the head baker's car
waiting for your lift home,
you looked far more grown up,
not the girl who teased me at work,
and made the world a better place
just by your presence.

We exchanged a few platitudes
and said we'd meet again, some day,
if the gods willed it.

Too young to realise that some day,
sometimes, means never,
and the gods, presumably,
had other fish to fry.

Yet you've always been there,
easy to recall,
gentle on my mind.
Red-brown hair glinting in the sun,
that little smile on your lips
and warmth in your grey eyes.

I've loved and lost since then,
more than once,
become a man, a lover,
a father, and now a grandfather.

I have no real idea how you've lived,
although I heard stories.
But nothing for a long time now.
For all I know you may be dead.
You'll certainly be grey haired by now.

But your image persists
and my mind adds children,
even grandchildren,
to that young girl who stole my heart
and still, no matter what,
holds a place I don't wish to deny.

Gyppo
Gyppo, This is beautiful.. The migration of our lives, joys and tears along the way. Lisaeagle

written yesterday as a gift for my granddaughter's birthday...

Day 22

On Brooke's 18th

And it came to pass
that the young are born
and the old get older

life in between is filled and fast.

The best years, those-
live     learn     love
wrapped in much invincibility
immortality
tempered by touches of insecurity
fragility.

When times are easy and bright
when times are tough and dark
in all times
your family is always here
always arms opened wide
welcoming you inside
no judgments
only unconditional love.

And someday if the stars align
you'll have children of your own.

But for now
today here's my wish
my admonition
my counsel
for you
Pépère's sweet girl:

Follow your Heart
Listen closely
It will never lead you astray

Journey hand in hand with your Muse

You are an artist
And your life a canvas
Use your paints and brushes
Color outside the lines

There are no limits
But the limitations
You place on yourself

Spread your wings and fly

Soar!

And it came to pass

Ahh, the words, the honesty. This is special Aj... Outstanding writing everyone.. I am humbled, truly..
The line "Listen to your heart" speaks of the poet's knowing. So packed with knowing. Marcel

Forsaken

“How dare you doubt me!”
Says the liar to authenticity
with malignant deceit
and merciless half-truths.

A devoted heart abandoned,
seared is scarred forever.
Confidence, once eclipsed
is never left unguarded.

Survivors break chains of doubt
wings unclipped; they fly unfettered
in search of possibilities
for a nest in which to molt.

But for those whose pain lingers
internal vital organs bleed out trust
leaving hopes and dreams
to languish like road kill.

~Deb
And who will scrape our rood kill with compassion and return us to the earth? Lessons learned abound in these verses. Marcel

And now, for the final installment of "the jay and the doves" trilogy... good thing Tracy is away, given his admonition about the dreaded limerick......

Day 23

Doves

six Doves were under White Cedars
peaceful their lunch spilled from Seeders
       mighty Sir Blue Jay
       denied his Entrée
meek strength inherits the Feeders

There is a moral to this picture. Marcel

23

Sign language

Flaked bark,

its under- flesh crumbles

down to a drought shore

filled with foreknowledge

unheeded, drab gulls

stumble sullenly

along a scarred water line

in search of crabs.

The promenade is boarded up.
