Sharon.  IRIDOLOGY.  A new word learned today.  Thank you.

I can see how easy it would to believe in these folds, dips, shadows and spikes.  Even if the science is distinctly dodgy.

If we believe that 'the eyes are mirror of the soul' then seeing them as a mirror of bodily health seems a reasonable, if false, step.  I used to know a girl with odd eyes, one dark brown and one bright blue.  Most disconcerting, as if there were two different people looking out at you.

She must have got used to seeing the shock in other people's eyes when they first saw the difference.

I've been writing ever since I realised I could.  Storytelling since I started talking.  Poetry however comes and goes  ;-)

April 9

What's the Real Explanation?

Intricate patterns pressed in fields of grain,
magical mandalas.
Among prevailing explanations
by breathless followers
of the phenomenon:
extraterrestrial messages
left by advanced life forms
communicating attempts at friendship perhaps,
or, more darkly, threats of invasion
lest
we do not shape up.

How frightening the thought
that those who hold such beliefs
do not question
why
those obviously superior beings
are incapable
of learning English.

Awesome point :D

My favorite Calvin and Hobbs cartoon has Calvin saying "The best proof of the existence of intelligent life in this universe is that they have made no apparent attempt to contact us."

Thanks you everyone new and familiar for such a fantastic collection of Poems and thoughts and ideas. A rush of creativity and sharing. I constantly hear that people today are lazy, self oriented and can't share but this Event proves otherwise. Will Need so much time to pick out favourites and all the Little moments where I ahve been moved emotionally and intellectually.

Day 9
I have lied. More than once.
It is a character flaw, you say.

Call it education, or art, I reply.

The first time it’s unlucky,
thereafter a creative process.

Ice in an untouched whiskey melts,
becomes an off- colour skin. You
remain aloof from the inevitability,
of dissolution. Call it hope.

We both know, under my thin smile
I conjour the illusion of love
from a book of synonyms I keep
for evenings like this, evenings
in which you hear absence in my voice.

Dave,

In response to your "thank you" comment let me say your writing has been entertaining, insightful inspirational and moving over a broad range of subjects and tenor. From you quirky "one leg shorter" poem to what I would call "regrets, confessions and soul bearing" not to mention skillfully written

This last is no exception--who among us has not been less than honest in hiding those moments of distraction, disengagement and emotional dishonesty at some time in our lives. The ability to get honest about it is remarkable.

4/9 poem

Barometric Pressure

Barely broken, this April
small town sleeps
among awakening grass.

Coming snow will make little noise,
much like those rare moments
in the middle of a quiet life.

Much love the closing stanza, George. Wonderful stuff.
My daughter reports forecasts of up to 18 inches in Minneapolis in the coming 3 days. Are you in the neighborhood of that deluge? Of course we hope the temps are high enough so that is comes are rain.

Cheers.

What's the Real Explanation?

I laughed so much at the end L.
But if the stories about anal probing are true...I'd be more concerned about their morals than their education
Great read.

What can I say...fab is too small a word, so let's just call it what it is...fabulous; and this last S is sublime.
