Everywhere.
Paint by number cats
and unnamed hamlets.
A Christie thriller
halved with recipes.
The tv room
without her soaps,
the kitchen
where she doesn’t sing.
Empty beds
where marigolds had grown,
goldenrod
that flares up anyway.
The family
that makes an effort now.
A vessel
for her ruins -
saliva fingertips
that once erased the smudges from my cheeks,
hands
that swept my errant strands of hair
from left to right.

Day 4: Tokens
Re: Day 4: Tokens
This is heartbreakingly beautiful. You've used so few words to say so much.

High art, Hugh.

Tracy and Gyppo, thanks for your responses.

painfully beautiful because it's so honest.
