Walking Jane Austen_____Day 2
I walked Jane Austen
to the library today,
about a mile each way.
As I walked, I stopped
to admire the buds
fat and gilded with color
close to bloom.
I drank the sight of daffodils
gently bent, heavy
with petals soon to unfurl.
The Robins watched
with their wary black eyes,
till we had safely passed them by.
At the library, I traded
Pride and Prejudice
for Mansfield Park,
then Jane and I walked the return.
The trees and the almost flowers
whispered us home.
All along the way
we were followed
by their sibilant sighs.
“Soon.”
