Colm,

May I ask what you mean by OTT? Gil? This was trying to be poetry, trying in terms of that which I understand from this forum, as I tried to say in the last comment. And again, could you further "ground"? I truly appreciate your reply and am really interested in what you're saying the requisites of connection to the reader are.

What is a soul? It's not a word you'll see in contemporary poetry. Like heart, as in 'he broke my'....
Or 'she loved me', that's a lame and lazy telling way of saying absolutely nothing original.
When I said 'ground' it was a suggestion, we don't live in a fantasy world with queens etc.
If you do, forgive me.
If I misread this, forgive me.
Anywho, kudos. I admire your respectful reply to my strong comment...shows great character.
Looking forward to reading more of your work.
Regards

Colm,
I don't mean any malice, but you said nearly simultaneously that 'soul' is unseen in contemporary works and is unoriginal. How do you mean?

Do you know what a soul is? No you don't.
Do you know if they exist? No you don't.
Contemporary poetry usually concerns itself with real things, things it can describe; like freshly baked bread.
You don't see much written about God either for the same reason.
Just make it real
Regards
