A red ribbon is pinned
to Grandma's pillowcases.
The county fair
isn't.

Write a poem, and behold!
Svelte art book slides off the top shelf.
"What about me," she cries?
"Color blind?"

I did comment on this poem somewhere on the site. There is nothing fair about a country fair. Agree.

Tumbleweeds enter, stage left.
Trumps falling oblivious paths
through the scrub, but scour trails
too deep to repair...or care.

I hope not too deep to repair or to go around.

Twist on Life

They’ll never know drive-in movies
or that Elvis was more than a clock
with swinging hips
at grandma’s Summer cabin

Your poem hints to more beyond grandma's imagination.

Blaming politicians for global warming,
while we, individually, do little
is a popular sport,
soon to be played sub aqua.

Resuscitate or not? Death or extended misery!
Blooded hands before the arena,
we are omnipotent emperors
with useless fumbling thumbs.

I had been working on a poem about drive-in movies and how the kids of this generation won't know the fun of it and in this piece combined it with the fact that this generation didn't grow up listening to their mom's Elvis records. My mom loved Elvis Presley. I bought her an Elvis clock like this one just for fun.

We were at her place once when our boys were little, they asked, "What's that?"
Mom said, "That's the Elvis clock your crazy mom gave me." That's pretty much all they knew of Elvis as they grew up.
Mom died when they were very young. I threw it all together as one thought.

Ya, Deb - I totally get it.  And it puts me in mind of so many things my parents would talk about that I had no clue about.  Your poem is a thousand things...........
