A crowded hydrofoil,
standing room only, we watched Sorrento shrink.
Capri, concealed by the crowd, appeared as a dock
then opened to a small port,
a short walk and a big surprise.
I assumed the big day deserved a private tour,
chauffeured.
My elegant wife suggested a Vespa!
We survived intact...just.
Capri behaved, bowed down before us
and contradicted every negative I'd heard.
In the main square, coffee and cake didn't require a mortgage
and her boutique shopping
was swift, successful and dented my card
only slightly more than the €55 scooter charge.
A chairlift to the summit and a delightful American girl's offer
saved us from yet another crap selfie, she made us (me) look good.
Later, back on the mainland
our Anniversary meal was disturbed by the Medicane,
another first for us.
Dining al fresco, trapped behind plastic walls,
but the battering wind just reminded us of home
and how comfortable we are
anywhere.

What an engaging and inclusive narrative, Colm. You made us readers feel a part, even in the routine. It has the sense of having escaped your usual editing scalpel, and this is more an observation than a crit.
Thanks for keeping us in the circle.

I love the ending--I understand the comfort comes from the anniversary couple being in one another's company. Its so cozy/reassuring.
I wonder if the accuracy of telling time and location (later, back on the mainland) is necessary? Somehow it is too much an intrusion into the narrative to my reading.
Travel adventures---:::sigh:::
