Magic Fruit

Post by Colm Roe » Fri Oct 07, 2022 7:55 pm

An apple
that probably never fell
the gravity one
the one that sent Apollo 11
to the Moon
struck an asteroid last week
with such precision
the one that still keeps the doctor at bay
reduces cholesterol
and rots livers
tells Putins where to aim
just an apple when left alone
but we have to meddle
# Adam, but
mostly Eve

Ah, Man's infinite capacity for meddling.  For playing the 'What if?' card.

Very nicely wrapped up, Colm, with a light touch.

Where would be be without Eve to blame?

Yes, a card we use that creates problems, then use again to try to rectify them.
So much has improved in the last 100 years, but it really feels like it's one step forward and two steps back
Thanks for the read and comments  :)

The apple fits so neatly into meddling of massive proportions, Colm. Really clever! But are you surprised I don't like the ending?   :D

The story was told by men, so I've always had my doubts  :)

My mother was terrified of snakes and schooled me from an early age in the reasons "all women fear and hate snakes". Guilt for what we did in the garden of Eden. Yep, I picked up garter snakes by a nearby lake. It's a twist on the strange religious practice by a certain Christian evangelical religious group that handles snakes as a way to show they are protected by God I guess. I snake handled for my own reasons. BTW I'm with Jackie. Loved the rest of your fun poem.

I am still at a loss to imagine how the human race could have ended up differently to what it is. Poor Adam's snkae simply got hard, didn't it?
