Legacy

Post by Colm Roe » Thu Oct 01, 2020 8:19 pm

As a child I ran time ragged,
it must have aged quicker from my assaults.
As I look back, I think
I might have busted its clock.
I'm looking for a reputable tradesman
to mend its wobbles.

I miss words sometimes,
my vortex shrinks
and I see the right one to use,
but it's on the other side...out of reach.

Strange thing is,
as I condense
towards the funnel's close
I feel the gravity of words,
their weight and lightness,
the ones I should know and use now...
especially now
the feathered ones
that will float effortlessly, live longer.

Lead and iron, below and above me
and one last chance
to leave a legacy.

I like this.

It made me think about the legacy I'll be leaving.  Financially, probably not much.  Hopefully enough to put me away decently without my girls having to pay for it.  Anything beyond that  they can share out as they see fit.

I think my real legacy will be the bright and curious minds of my girls and my Grandaughter.  Hopefully I've managed to teach them to always ask questions and to never just take the first easy answer without thinking through the other options too.  Even if the first one turns out to be best.  And hopefully they'll sometimes stop and wonder about the stuff I have never explained or taught them.  The open ended questions which will let them find their own way.

Agree with all of the above. Especially regarding my daughter.
They are fabulous beings and we men learn so much from them. She is so eager
to live and love life she believes (or used to believe) everything. I had to teach her to
be a bit more sceptical. I hated myself for it though.
Not easy being a dad :)

The common factors in your comments is that actually young people dynamic creative and such a reward. It is sadly not said often enough just how amazing young people can be. I cannot think more highly of my own kids or those of my friends and acquaintances.
