Edibles & Mead

Post by Deb » Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:10 pm

Edibles & Mead

A writer delves

into the depths
of a character’s being.

Comes out a different person,
a rebuilt soul.
The crux of empathy, tragedy, reality,
imagination and fear.

The essence of hope
and misguided missiles

Thin threads that bind...
we weave threads for

a dare to promise
a promise to dare.

An Emissary of Earth,
life, and compassion.
A piece to,
or contrast of,
our own lost selves.

Fractioned.

The elemental shards
of the blocks that built the walls barriers
of in our lives -
your life.

Break from

the anchors of depression
that limit our possibilities

while our weary, intrepid souls
search for meaning
and a glue gun.

After drinking a gift of homemade mead with a friend tonight, this is what I ended up with.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.  In the morning, I fear a palm to the forehead reaction from myself and firm talking to from the sensible among us, meaning you.

Why I thought it would be okay to do so publicly, I have yet to decipher. :D

This my friends,
is stupid, raw honesty.

Too late now, right?

What utter shite. :D

For the record, this is the first piece I've written in this condition, so I consider this an experiment.

:?

I find it embarrassing that I can't delete an impulsive comment in its entirety and twice as embarrassed that I can't delete three or four others.

I've heard certain meads can be up to 20% alcoholic content 👀

I might be tempted to eliminate all punctuation, just let it go where it seems to want to go (since it was kind of born in this state). Maybe start w/ the capital and then go.

I like "elemental shards" very much, especially in proximity to the cross-out.

Poems about poetry are tough....so easy to slide into philosophical details. Hell, we're all Descartes when tipsy, aren't we?

A nice read. Heart-felt. No reason to apologize. For anything.

After a fit of laughter, we discovered the mead was cannabis-infused. :o We thought we drank the cannabis free mead but it wasn't labeled. My friend is a medicinal-cannabis farmer and makes all kinds of mead, some cannabis-infused, some not. This was from his "Special stash".

I've not tried to write while under the influence of cannabis and decided to see which writers have used it in the past. I don't know if I'll go further down that road but I doubt it.

Here's what I found: https://cannabismo.org/5-great-writers-wrote-stoned/ If anyone does write while under the influence of cannabis, they are in good company.

Thank you for reading and commenting.

I enjoyed this very much, Deb.  Infused mead sounds like an unusual treat.  Some time ago I posted "Sailing in Edible Soup".  I think yours is the better effort.

I think there are lots of ways to get to a working draft of a poem -- the more creative the better.  The bursts of creativity, the door-opening insights and blazing metaphors rarely raise there heads for the first time in the editing processes.  They are there in the rough drafts, waiting to be recognized and polished.

Of course the major drawback for me with a draft written while significantly high is the frequent difficulty of again finding the thread which I was following in the draft.   :?

So there is that.

I do like the insights & progressions of this poem.  And more, I like your willingness to experiment.

Cheers.
