Thanks

Gobble, gobble, frippery and wattle
giblets and cockles
simmer in pottle
soon crammed down missing muzzle
stuffed in gizzardless void.

Bake and broil, potatoes a boil
green bean casserole
savory oyster stew
peas and mashed butternut
pots carpet the cook top
warm rolls drip with butter
pan gravy ladled hot.

Pumpkin, apple, blueberry, cherry
pies float in erstwhile vanilla ice
the best excruciatingly saved for last.

All that gut expanding window dressing
is but a comfort from which to give thanks
and extend thanks
to family, friends and acquaintances
on either side of the big pond.

I wonder how thankful the turkey is.
Maybe the stately bird would have preferred
to have not been separated from his wattle
rather fancied this day were on the chopping block.

Thanks, indeed.

Hi and Happy Thanksgiving aj.
Reading the S1 I thought it was going to be a nonsense poem...sadly not  :(
However, I did enjoy the read, but will have to wait till Christmas for my turkey.
Hope you haven't gained too much weight  :)
I do look forward to a time when we don't have to torture/kill/eat all those delicious earthlings we share the planet with.
Not that that'll be happening any time soon
Regards

Hi Colm - trust you are well..........

It did start out as a nonsense poem, a silly Thanksgiving Day parody of MacBeth's three witches... but, alas, my scratchings almost always go wherever my Muse takes my pen.  She led me to gluttony and bloodshed in the midst of giving thanks............. :?   I'm not much of a poet, mostly I just rant  :)

Hopefully we will someday soon stop killing our co-inhabitants for our protein needs.

Thankfully, I didn't overeat this time.  ;)

Timely and well observed!  :D   All of the rich descriptives in S1 echo the richness of table. Delicious write! All present at our own family feast, save for the oyster stew! Yum. I'm still digesting
