Yeah, I've often wondered about abbreviations and acronyms in poetry. They have different meanings, but are similar when understood. 
Thinking about it, the long form should be used here instead of the abbreviation...it looks lazy; unlike acronyms. 
All acronyms can be abbreviations, but all abbreviations cannot be acronyms.

As I understand it, an acronym is when the initial letters make a word, and an initialism when they don't.

God is most definitely in the detail. The poem makes it's point but probably underlkines it. I think less would be more here.
Nevertheless I liked the read.
