A time of voluntary madness,
starting with the Festival of Fools.
The first of April,
when minds expand, and time contracts
down to snatched moments.
Thirty days seems a long time,
the first week limping along
as mental circuits re-open,
like a Tibetan monk's third eye.
Then the middle weeks are gone
the finish is in sight.
Half the themes you planned,
if you're a planner,
will remain untouched.
Unexpected things will appear,
as if from nowhere,
insisting you write them down
before they are snatched away,
by the vagaries of the 'real world'.
Recurrent themes from earlier years
will fight with new ones for time.
Some ideas never die,
reappearing in new clothes,
setting traps for the next year.
Somewhere, amongst all this,
a human with a pen, or a keyboard,
will gaze at the swirling options and,
mostly, create some kind of sense.

I've been writing ever since I realised I could. Storytelling since I started talking. Poetry however comes and goes

You nailed it, Gyppster. Well, well said.
And yes, there is a small element of madness involved.
See you at the other board.

Oh my goodness, Gyppo!
I love that I am reading this well after NaPo 2023.
Had I read it before, well, who can say?
Much loved either way.

Hi, Deb. Perhaps best read after the insanity has peaked and faded.
