I’d like to give thanks
to Armitage Shanks
standing there a-gleaming in serried white ranks.
What would we do
in a world without you?
Do it out the window with a warning Halloo?
'Ahoy there below!
I thought you'd like to know
There's no internal plumbing and I’ve really got to go. '
‘Sorry Mrs Ware,
didn’t see you there.
You’ll find a good conditioner should get it out your hair.’
But we can be discreet
thanks to Armitage’s feat
No need to whip the curtain back and do it in the street.
And the world we now see
is mercifully free
of bottoms looming overhead for everyone to see.
Instead we have utilities
with porcelain facilities
thanks to Shank’s and Armitage’s technical abilities.

Hi Dylan
This is indeed a lot of fun.
Thanks

Ha! Nothing like the prospect of a Dylan piece to lift the gloom a little and this one didn't disappoint - very amusing. Very well written too, I found cadence and rhythm in reciting the poem. The rhyme is good too, unforced.
In this age of contemporary poetry, which all too often is choppy purple prose, (and i include myself in that) a piece like this is a reminder of the oral tradition of poetry.
Can you imagine the concluding roar if this was wittily recited at closing time down the pub... ha ha... thanks for posting.

Thanks Mark, glad to have lifted the gloom.
I think we must go in very different pubs though.

The local here is like no other. If your timing is good, you may see a tipsy woman remove her panties, stand on a bar stool and hang them from the ceiling.
