Loved the way you handled this. Can relate to everything you said, been there with our cats/dogs/fish/dwarf hamsters etc.  Parents, sometimes we're too soft with our children, and sometimes we're oblivious to their needs. You can try to spread the 'load', but ultimately it all falls back on the pare...

Hi July, You are trying too hard to make them sound poetic. Metaphor is such a powerful tool, but it requires restraint.  And you need to ground poetry in some sort of reality...'night' doesn't 'yawn'.  The shape of clouds on the horizon could have the appearance of a person yawning.
