You are the hornet humming near honeysuckle vines I mistake for honeybee The still log with eyes floating patient in Florida waters You are the shoreline blue and frothed above which tugs below cold dark strong The funny mole on nose or cheek The Bolton Strid The Box Jelly water in water on water in...

Re: This Is Not An Elegy - Day 13

I feel this poem, I'm on about 50 ;)

This bit I loved:

"At 19 I watched my life blow away
like an old barn
in a hurricane,
graceless and immediate."

It's the "graceless" that got me. It's so true. So many times there is no dignity involved with life's caprice. Well written.

Re: National Poetry Month Celebration 2019 - Post Poems Here!

Indar: A "triolet" belongs to family of medieval songs like the "rondeau".  The first line appears three times. When you publish your chap book of triolets I suggest a beautifully rendered drawing of a trillium for the cover art. :) I love this idea :) These triolets are beautiful and musical, ever...

Re: National Poetry Month Celebration 2019 - Post Poems Here!

Dave, thanks so much for your kind words, and also for always supporting my work! It means a lot to me. I have been reading and enjoying your work as well, haven't had time to form a proper comment though (simply whipping up the apple poem this morning made me late, ha!) So my apologies. Gyppo, I th...

Re: National Poetry Month Celebration 2019 - Post Poems Here!

Where the apple dropped She offers generic coffee and fresh baked Pulla , her half-hug all sharp shoulder. The home smells of cardamom and candles, ever present wood smoke. I remove my jacket, she likes it warm like a little bird. I imagine her bones as light, as hollow, fragile. I see her fig has g...

Deb, just popping in to say how much I love your entry. Reminds me of the limiting "virgin/mother/crone" feminine archetypes.

This line:
"Mom was damaged and lovely"
is especially beautiful in its honesty.

Thanks for sharing, welcome aboard :)

Re: National Poetry Month Celebration 2019 - Post Poems Here!

Gyppo, charming homage to type! :D And yes re: iridology , I've recently learnt of it myself and just had to try to work it into a poem. Colm, are these all true?! sad if so! Guilt in Vane I hold the small hot bird, fingers a gentle cage around soft trembling. There is a trust of sorts, he k...
