Re: Brigit Pegeen Kelly (not from my collection)

It depends on what you really want this to be.  On what purpose you have in mind.  If you want a praise poem or a simple yet moving epitaph for a dead and much-missed friend, all you really need are the first and last stanzas.  Like this... The Celtic goddess of poetry other poets adored. A goddess ...

Re: Carling with Cathy: Written and spoken.

In answer to your questions...  Although Colm has more or less covered it. 1)  Carling was a well known lager back then in the UK. 2)  Smooth git:  Git is short for illegitimate, therefore a smooth git was a smooth bastard.  Like a lot of British slang an insult can become almost a term of endearmen...

Re: Driving out Daisies

As they say in sale adverts.  "When it's gone, it's gone." Here's the same message in a different form from 1968.  I was a little surprised how easy it was to find this song after all the years since I first heard a purely acoustic version of it at a folk club. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB_O3J...

Some thoughts/suggestions about recording software/hardware.

What have I learned during my recent experiments with recording my own voice?        1)  You need a reasonable microphone.  Mine cost £25 and it seems to do a fair job.     2)  It would be really helpful if it had a light to tell you it was on.  Mine hasn't.  As a result I've occasionally tried ...

I shouldn't be here: Written and spoken.

Here's the soundcloud link... https://soundcloud.com/user-593821894/i-shouldnt-be-here/s-cOjku And here's the words... I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't be here, I don't belong in this century  or any other if the truth be told. But I'm here despite the odds and I'm not going away yet. I'll paddle my...

Carling with Cathy: Written and spoken.

Here's the soundcloud link https://soundcloud.com/user-593821894/carling-with-cathy-best And here's the words.  (A few more words crept in because they seemed to improve the flow when spoken. Carling with Cathy Sitting on my Gran's gate in the sunshine, sharing a can of Carling. Black label no less,...

Re: The rock

Colm, I'm a bit late to the party, but I really like this.  It seems to me that you have quietly imbued the rock with a kind of personality, rather like the way Jack London made weather conditions and terrain into active players in his tales of the frozen north. Minor nit pick.  Shouldn't there be a...

A troubadour?  A compliment indeed.  [Doffs his plumed hat and delivers a sweeping bow to the Lady.]

Maybe in a previous life I was.  Or a wandering storyteller.

I can be as shy and nervous as the next man before I get started, but once I'm 'performing' a different personality takes over.

Re: One Night in June. (The spoken experiment continues.)

Is that a plus or a minus? ;-)  Or just at odds with what you've always heard in your own head when reading my written words?

One Night in June. (The spoken experiment continues.)

The experiment continues.  This comes from the same holiday as The Clifftop Drummer. This time you get the sound file and the written words. https://soundcloud.com/user-593821894/one-night-in-june/s-f2k4q One night in June Climbing a cliff in the moonlight gleefully 'living on the edge', although, t...
