Leaving the Nest

~

    Leaving the Nest

I want you to go into the woods
where life is lush with surplus

I want you to listen, be healthy
and grow fat in smatterings
of pregnant sunshine

watch a red squirrel skinny
down a quavering branch
toward inexperienced leaves.

Re: City Planners

Delightful! With a great closing line.  My first question was whether "angles" in Line 1 is a typo.  The mention of "grid" and later text suggests that there is no typo.  So after rolling "angels" around for a while, I am still at a loss as to which word functions better.  Each sort of subliminally ...

Re: North on the Starliner

I remember this Vintage Indar gem. A wonderful poem, like the reader is gazing out the window of the Starliner.  But I wonder into what era?  Would the images of the poem correspond to what a passenger might today observe from a lounge car window.

Re: The Dan Patch Express

Dan Patch--I grew up holding him, at the instance of the authority of my father, in the same regard as Joe Luis and Honus Wagner.  I enjoy all the memories loosely tethered to the threads of this poem.  How interesting and compelling is the image of the high school football practice flashing in the ...

Re: An experiment: Two 'spoken offerings' at this link

I couldn't get the audio to fire up. I used to use SoundCloud, but the site made some changes which rendered the platform less designed for my purposes.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  I'll keep trying.

Cheers.

Re: Fiona's Cat Speaks

I love this Gyppo. Animal POV poems are both challenging and intriguing. You have done exceedingly well with this. After reading your preamble, I just had to pull out the cat poem I wrote back in the MWC days:     Co-Author Paws padding, I never hear before she drops in a crouch on the corner of my ...

Re: Woke

This presents such a succinct juxtaposition, which so strongly makes the point.  Stunning to recall -- violence against women being such a cultural staple that that the threat is used as humor. How does it look to you if S.2 is made present-tense?  The brevity of this multiplies its force.   Very cr...

Re: Garden Tour

Great picture!  Love it. Here's one from me: https://i.imgur.com/gCnzTpj.jpg The devolution of yard art is so quintessentially American--and not in a good way.  Pink plastic flamingos, ok.  Figurines of black  boys fishing? Fourth of July approaches.  How about a life-sized  George Wallace wrapped i...
