Re: Silence

'they could stay
I know they could
but one by one
they drop silent

shouldn't their detachment make a sound
a cruel little snap
register a tiny yelp of pain'

Maybe they do, Colm, but we are lucky enough not to hear it.  Autumn would be agony if we could hear such sounds.

Lovely poem.

Remembrance Day

Tomorrow (12th), barring accidents or major problems, I will stand for a while with the old men in uniform at the outdoor service.  Every year the faces change, and some of the older ones vanish. This poem is from 2019, when there were a few noticeable changes in the line-up.. ===== Remembrance Day ...

Re: Leaving the Nest

The little sods sometimes dig up things I've planted in order to bury their own gatherings.  But I've not shot any since I moved in here.  The occasional rats have been less lucky.

Re: Leaving the Nest

'smatterings of pregnant sunshine' 'inexperienced leaves'. This whole thing has left me with a smile on my face, but these two phrases stand out for me. My 86 year old neighbour has taken to feeding the squirrels in her back garden, says they're far more interesting than most of what she sees on tel...

Re: Fiona's Cat Speaks

I really enjoyed writing it. I've always thought that cats would make great philosophers. Interesting thing happened with this poem.  I've had a few people tell me they could see the cat, and they even described it to me.  But there's not a single word of physical description in the poem, just what ...

Re: An experiment: Two 'spoken offerings' at this link

That's a bummer ;-(  Thanks for trying anyway.

It plays back for me. My aunt in Canada managed to listen to something else I had posted on soundcloud, but after my voice it just segued into some Canadian rapper.

Not sure what's going on there.

Fiona's Cat Speaks

Many years ago on a long lost writing circle (MWC) there was a young lady called  Fiona.  She had a cat which spent hours waiting patiently by a mouse  hole where the oh-so-clever humans knew there hadn't been a mouse in  years.  The cat also walked up and down her keyboard at times. She thought it ...

An experiment: Two 'spoken offerings' at this link

Testing the new microphone, wanting to know how it works for other folks. One is 'I read cereal packets' , about how I learned to read. The other comes from this months 'Fives', entitled  'Signing Mary's Shirt'. Any feedback on this experiment is welcomed. Here's the link, to Soundcloud. https://sou...

Re: North on the Starliner

Indar, This is a very visual poem.  It reminds me how on long train journeys the carriage seems to stay still and the world passes by. I loved the idea of the sun passing over the train three times, then finally being caught by the sea. I'm also rather taken by the idea of the metal cut-outs of Jack...

Re: To My Sisters of a Certain Age

I like this, even if it does paint a dark and unduly cynical picture.  Very nicely put together and with a neat mood switch. I'm sure that statistically the dark ending is about as rare as the perfect happy ever version, although it did work out right for Grace Kelly. Although I did, many years ago,...
